No big surprise that Carlos Corberán after a poor start to the season is sacked by Valencia, a slightly bigger surprise that they have chosen a successor who Marca describes as skilled, but out of step with the qualities of the squad.
That could be a good thing, we think, after all, it’s not going so well. Valencia have been slow in the opening stages of La Liga and have only picked up four points in seven rounds.

Javier Aguirre takes over Valencia
Javier Aguirre and Valencia agree. The Mexican takes over as head coach.
He takes over from Carlos Corberán, who was fired earlier in September. The contract is written until the end of the season, with an option to extend for another year.
Aguirre comes most recently from national team assignments, where he led Mexico’s national team to the last eight of the World Cup this summer – on home soil. It was his third and final World Cup with the South American nation.
At club level, the 67-year-old has coached a number of Spanish teams, such as Atlético Madrid, RCD Espanyol and RCD Mallorca.
They face Real Racing Club de Santander after the international break – it will be Aguirre’s first game at the helm.
