You know the story. Manchester United are once again in a sporting crisis, again grumpy comments hail from key players, again the coach has to go out and explain and defend. Bruno Fernandes came with direct criticism of Carrick after the leaden 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League, now many are wondering if the Portuguese can continue as captain.

What was said between Carrick and Fernandes after the game?

“I don’t think it’s time to go into too much detail,” Carrick begins, according to BBC Sport.

At Friday’s press conference, the pressured United manager was also asked directly if he had considered putting Fernandes on the bench for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth.

“The most important thing for me is the team, the squad and the dynamics of the squad. It’s about the club. I always want to do what’s best for the club,” Carrick said.

When Carrick was asked if Fernandes was in danger of losing the captain’s armband, he repeated.

“I will always do what is best for the club.
