Last month, Jürgen Klopp named Bruno Fernandes the Premier League’s best player. Since Michael Carrick took over the reins at Manchester United, the Portuguese has been absolutely outstanding. Paul Pogba knows all about playing for Manchester United, the Frenchman believes the shirt is now hampering the United captain.
Not in the game, but in the battle for the greatest individual recognition, the Ballon d’Or award.

“Can Bruno Fernandes do something more than what he is doing now at United? If he was on another team, would he be a top three Ballon D’or player? This is the question Paul Pogba asked as a guest on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast.
Pogba of course has the answer himself.
“In my eyes, if you put him at Manchester City, Bruno Fernandes is in the top three. With the stats, the season, the way he plays and everything, but when you don’t win anything, you don’t think of you like that. That’s the way it is. That’s football, says Pogba.
The last time Fernandes was nominated in the top 30 for the Ballon D’or was all the way back in 2021. Then the Portuguese ended up in joint 21st place.
Now Fernandes is on his way to breaking the Premier League record for assists, and with a good World Cup play-off for Portugal, it could once again mean opportunities in the Ballon d’Or awards. But all the way to the top, Fernandes won’t come until he changes clubs – according to the omniscient Paul Pogba.
