Mateus Fernandes is on Manchester United’s midfield list and it is not without reason. – Captain Bruno Fernandes has in several rounds pointed to his compatriot with the same surname as a perfect match.
Bruno Fernandes has recommended the signing of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes to Manchester United’s management.

Manchester United are on the hunt for at least one new central midfielder in the summer transfer window, as Casemiro is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season when his contract expires.
There are several more options being considered, including Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.
According to The Telegraph, Mateus Fernandes is also on United’s midfield list. The 21-year-old could be available at a lower price if West Ham are relegated from the Premier League this season.
The report adds that Bruno Fernandes has “brought up his namesake and compatriot’s qualities” with United’s recruitment team.
Made his debut for Portugal
Mateus Fernandes received his first call-up to Portugal’s national team last month, and he made his debut as a substitute for Bruno Fernandes during a 2-0 win in a friendly against the United States.

West Ham signed Mateus Fernandes from Southampton last summer, in a deal worth £38 million plus £4 million in bonus schemes.
He still has four years left on the contract he signed with West Ham in last summer’s transfer window.
Fernandes entered Sporting CP’s youth academy as a schoolboy, but only made ten appearances for the Portuguese club before joining Southampton for £15 million in 2024.
So far this season, Fernandes has scored four goals and registered three assists in 35 appearances for West Ham.
