The road so far for Carlo Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti was born in Reggiolo, Italy in 1959. As a player, he was a solid midfielder who won two Serie A titles and two Champions League trophies with AC Milan. After retiring, he started his legendary coaching career as an assistant to Arrigo Sacchi in Italy’s national team, before taking over Reggiana in 1995.

This was followed by a long string of successes at Europe’s biggest clubs: Juventus, AC Milan (two CL titles), Chelsea (Premier League and FA Cup), Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1), Real Madrid (La Décima – the club’s tenth CL title), Bayern Munich (Bundesliga), Napoli, Everton and then Real Madrid again, where he won two more CL trophies in 2022 and 2024.

Ancelotti has 10 games in charge of the South Americans so far, with five wins, two draws and three losses. Brazil are chasing their sixth World Cup title this year – the country’s first since 2002.

Ancelotti is expected to select his squad for the championship on May 18. Brazil opens their World Cup campaign against Morocco on June 13. In the same group (C), they also play Haiti and Scotland.

CBF president Samir Xaud described Ancelotti’s new contract as a “historic day for CBF and for Brazilian football”.

He added that it is “another solid step in our promise to offer the five-time World Cup national team an increasingly stronger, more modern and more competitive structure,” as “we work daily to keep Brazil at the highest level of world football.”
