Roman Abramovich gave Chelsea supporters a spectacular sporting journey to cheer about. Chelsea won a total of 21 trophies during the Russian’s 19 years as owner, including 5 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups, and 2 Champions League titles. There have been “shortcuts” that now the club has to pay for.
In March, Chelsea chose to reach a settlement with both UEFA and the Premier League after breaking several financial rules during Roman Abramovich’s time as owner. The violations have since been investigated by the FA, which has now also closed the case against the English big club.

On Friday, the association announced on its website that Chelsea will be fined ten million pounds and a conditional transfer ban for the next two windows. The FA is also continuing its investigation into any personal misconduct committed by individuals in connection with the case, it says.
The case concerns secret payments to agents that took place while Roman Abramovich owned the club. These were payments to agents, third parties and offshore companies that were not reported correctly in the club’s official accounts.

The new ownership itself reported to the Premier League and other authorities that they discovered some old payments and transfers at the takeover that they found suspicious.
Chelsea management is now happy that the case has been completely closed.
“In 2022, Chelsea voluntarily chose to report possible historical violations of the regulations to all relevant authorities and football organizations. Since then, the club has cooperated openly and transparently with all parties involved and has, among other things, voluntarily handed over many thousands of documents. As previously announced, Chelsea has already reached a settlement with UEFA and the Premier League regarding the same self-reported matters and issues that have been the subject of the investigations. The club is therefore pleased that the FA’s case has now also been closed, which means that all disciplinary and regulatory proceedings against Chelsea have now been concluded.

The ten million pounds Chelsea will have to pay in fines will be invested in “grassroots football”.
