It’s been quite a while since Tottenham were mentioned as a credible candidate for gold in the Premier League, but who knows, maybe it’s the coming season that will happen. At least something has to happen, two 17th places in a row hurt Spurs fans.
One player who can definitely lift the team after very impressive performances in the World Cup is Liverpool star Cody Gakpo. – A comment has aroused the media’s interest.

Cody Gakpo seemed to send a clear signal to former Liverpool manager Arne Slot after his brilliant performance at the World Cup.
Brian Brobbey and Gakpo scored two goals each, while West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville came on from the bench to set up the fifth for Ronald Koeman’s side.
After the game, Gakpo was named FIFA Player of the Match – with two goals and one assist. The goals increased the 27-year-old’s national team tally to 23 in 52 games, and he has once again proven that he is a completely different player in an orange shirt than in red.
But why?
Gakpo: “I have more freedom here than at the club”
After a disappointing season for Liverpool, in which Gakpo scored just nine goals in 52 appearances and was regularly criticised by fans who asked Slot to remove him from the starting line-up, questions have been piling up.
When asked why he performs so much better at the World Cup than at Liverpool, Gakpo seemed to send a subtle jab at his former club manager.
“It’s a little different,” Gakpo said.
“How I play here, where the coach wants me to be, the freedom I have – more than in the club. That’s pretty much it.
During Slot’s second season at Anfield, he was criticized for a boring style of play and lack of goalscoring ability. Gakpo’s comments suggest that this frustration – at least for some players – was also present in the dressing room.

Tottenham prepares ‘important bid’
Perhaps that explains why Gakpo is reportedly eager to leave Liverpool this summer. According to several reports, Tottenham Hotspur are willing to offer the winger a lucrative deal.
Nicolò Schira reports that Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi is very interested in signing Gakpo and is ready to go big. The London club are preparing an “important bid” and will offer him a five-year contract that binds him to the club until the summer of 2031.
Although Gakpo has not yet accepted an offer, further reports suggest that he is considering a move – especially after receiving signals that he will be a key player at Spurs, which may not be the case at Liverpool following the arrivals of Munoz and Diomande.
It could be one of the summer’s most interesting transfer dramas.
The Netherlands will face Tunisia in their final group match.
