Okay, we’re only six games into the season, but Michael Carrick really gave the Man Utd players and supporters real faith last season. In the last 17 Premier League games, the club stood with one poor loss, five draws and eleven wins. In this period, there was no – NO – other club in the Premier League that collected as many on points as Man Utd. Now the “Ruben Amorim” fear is spreading among the supporters at Old Trafford.
“It was a mixed game. We had a tough time from the start. For a number of reasons, we weren’t quite there. You could see it’s a challenging time, but the boys played their way into the game. In the second half, I think we were better in everything. To get the game the way we wanted it to, we have to finish it. We have to deal with those situations,” Carrick said after giving up a 1-0 lead in the 90th+2nd minute against the Premier League’s weakest club, Tottenham.

1-1. “We weren’t quite there”. A Man Utd coach’s job is to set up the entire race leading up to match day so that all players – and coaches – are there for 90-plus minutes.
Even Ruben Amorim didn’t do too badly in the Premier League last season. Carrick has now led the club to. 6 points from the first 6 league games. According to Sky Sports , this is the worst Premier League start since 1986!
Then we are back to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The United manager who was previously seen as too soft and lightweight by a coach compared to the big guns. The same man was praised by English Unitedinfocus earlier this year: “The Norwegian is without a doubt the club’s most successful manager after Sir Alex Ferguson.”
“Yes, he (Solskjaer) didn’t win a title, but Erik ten Hag did, and no one thinks he was successful when he led United to eighth place in the league. United (with Solskjaer) played brilliant football and faced two of the best teams ever – Pep Guardiola’s Man City and Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool, the English media explained.

Back in 2024 with Erik ten Hag still on guard, England’s Goal named Solskjaer the best Manchester United manager since Ferguson. This was before Ruben Amorim’s historically weak Premier League round. Now with Michael Carrick also in the Amorim groove with “weakest start to the season in 40 years!”, it would be hard not to acknowledge the feat Solskjaer did with Manchester United between the last month of 2018 and until November 2021).
Harry Maguire stated in 2025: “Ole did an incredible job, where the 2021 team was weaker, but the players were trained in an incredible way by Solskjaer and his coaching staff.”
Now to the circumstances surrounding Manchester City’s extensive breach of the Financial Fair Play rules (which is being appealed). There is already a lot of speculation about retrospective points penalties, which could lead to City being officially stripped of titles that the club won in the period in question.
If this happens, Manchester United will suddenly have three Premier League titles (11/12, 2017/18, 2020/21). The last one is then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In 2019/2020, Solskjaer led United to a 3rd place in the Premier League with City at the top. In the 2020/21 season, Solskjaer led United to 2nd place behind City.

Had Solskjaer entered the 2021/22 season as the reigning Premier League champions, not a jaw would have considered “our man” too easy and forced a dismissal, on November 21. United were then in 7th place in the Premier League table, twelve points behind Chelsea at the top. As the reigning league champion, Solskjaer would have had peace of mind going forward.
Sorry, Carrick, you are so far only a small boy compared to friend Ole Gunnar.
