A lot of people go out into the big world too early, but I’m not entirely sure that’s the case here. – Danial Skaarud, who is now 18 years old, was sold from Lillestrøm to Ajax in 2024 for 1.2 million euros.

It was a downturn almost immediately, Skaarud was well used from Lillestrøm was not invested in Ajax, which in recent years has rightly lost its status as one of the world’s best development teams.

Daniel Skaarud is ready for Sandefjord

“We are very happy to have Daniel in place. He is a player who got playing time early in the Eliteserien before he went to Ajax. It didn’t go quite as one had hoped in the Netherlands, but he has received good schooling in Ajax and also has U-national team experience, says Sandefjord’s sports director Matteus Bårdsen in the press release.

The youngest LSK debutant ever

In 2023, Skaarud became the youngest ever Lillestrøm player in the Eliteserien when he made his debut against Rosenborg. Now he is back on Norwegian soil.

The 18-year-old is primarily a midfielder, but can also cover both wing positions. He has signed a contract that lasts until 2030.

“When the opportunity to make a transfer for Daniel arose, we were quite quick on the ball. He is a young player we will be patient with – and who will have time to enjoy football again, says Bårdsen.

Difficult time at Ajax

The boy from Lørenskog is thus making a comeback in Norway after a demanding start to his career abroad. He made a total of five appearances for Ajax’s U19 team this season – the year before it was 14.

Sandefjord is in 8th place after eleven league rounds in the Eliteserien. The next game for the club will be on July 12 at home against HamKam, after the World Cup break.

It will be exciting to follow Skaarud in the Sandefjord shirt – a young addition with experience from one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
