Before Boxing Day, Enzo Maresca was asked if there will be any player sales in January. Since the summer, the Chelsea manager has given names of players he believes need to find a new club, but this time the Italian did not hold back again. Two players were singled out, now Chelsea have put a price tag on one.

“There are players who unfortunately didn’t play much with us in all the competitions, like Chilwell, like Carney. They are probably the first to want to change clubs, because they work every day and want to play. If they don’t play, they’re probably thinking about leaving. Every player has a different situation, so we’ll see if someone knocks on the door and says I want to leave. We will try to find a solution,” said Enzo Maresca before the trip to Goodison Park two days before Christmas Eve.

Carney Chukwuemeka has played just 130 minutes this season, but Chelsea have no intention of putting the 21-year-old on the cheap.

The midfielder was brought to Stamford Bridge in 2022 from Aston Villa, the London club had to shell out around £20 million. After 32 games in the blue shirt, the club management believes Carney is redundant, but still promising. So promising that they believe the price has doubled in two years.

According to the BBC, Chelsea are demanding £40 million to release Carney. Doesn’t sound like the 21-year-old will get a new club – or playing time – this season.
