Mohamed Elyounoussi has worn the Norwegian national team shirt for over ten years, but we have to go back to 2024 for the last international match. Ståle Solbakken has made room for the next generation of attacking players with great success, but in Denmark, the 32-year-old is still the big star.

On Thursday, FC Copenhagen struggled to create chances against Red Star in the Conference League. It took 55 minutes for FCK to register their first shot on goal, and there were only two of them during the game. Elyounoussi was on the bench and saved his strength before he was put on the pitch in the 80th minute. After the game, Danish Bold asked coach Bo Svensson if he feared that FC Copenhagen was too dependent on Elyounoussi.

“We’ve been like that all along. There’s nothing new in that,” was the dry statement from the FCK coach, before pointing to the summer transfer window as the reason.

-That’s how the pieces fell in the summer, so it’s not something we can stand here and say we’re surprised about at the end of October. So it’s about handling it in the best possible way, and that’s what we’re trying to do.

FC Copenhagen is also in the middle of a tight fixture schedule, where Bo Svensson must try to keep his players healthy for the matches in both the Superliga, Conference League and the cup.

Elyounoussi has 11 goals and 5 assists in 18 games, and there is little doubt that FC Copenhagen are struggling when it comes to resting their biggest star.
