Manager Michael Carrick has cleaned up with captain Bruno Fernandes – back against Chelsea on Saturday.
It has surprised everyone that Carrick was allowed to continue after the weekend’s loss to Bournemouth, but there is said to be a “good reason” why the sporting director has not sacked him. – In addition, captain Bruno Fernandes is invited back into the heat even though “everyone” thinks his behaviour is unforgivable.
The revelation from TalkSPORT is that sporting director Jason Wilcox is likely to be sacked if Michael Carrick fails to turn the situation around at Old Trafford. In other words, the future of Jason Wilcox is linked to the future of Michael Carrick, who in turn is dependent on starting to win and thus his future is linked to Bruno Fernandes who just has to work again.
Burnley almost agree with new manager who will raise more than one eyebrow
Good conversations are reported this morning – Everyone is friends again!!
Ex-international and now pundit Danny Murphy believes Michael Carrick was ‘massively wrong’ by leaving Bruno Fernandes as an unused substitute against Bournemouth. Fernandes was taken out of the team after criticism of Carrick’s tactics after a 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League.
Carrick and Fernandes have since held open talks, with the latter set to return to United’s starting line-up on Saturday against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
But Murphy believed Carrick should have addressed the issue before the Bournemouth defeat on Sunday.
“He’s (Fernandes) your best player and he (Carrick) could have given him a proper lap in front of the guys regarding the comments, which were poorly thought out and bad timing with everything that happened,” Murphy said.
“Even if he was going to put him on the bench against Bournemouth to make a point, it was stupid not to bring him in.
“If you have no intention of bringing him in and punishing him, don’t put him in the squad. When you’ve got your best player on the bench and you’re 2-0 down at half-time, that’s when you’re going to say, ‘Come on, show me how much you care.’
“He was completely wrong about that.”
Talks took place between Carrick and the Red Devils captain before practice today.
Fernandes is now expected to return to United’s starting line-up against Chelsea on Saturday.
The superstar midfielder was not in the line-up for United’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday – after he had publicly criticised Carrick’s tactics in the 4-1 loss to Como.
Manchester United go into Saturday’s clash at Stamford Bridge hoping to break an eight-game winless streak. “With a loss, they could end up below the red line.
