The Battle of Stamford Bridge. For Manchester United, it will be a battle at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Here awaits Xabi Alonso and the Chelsea players who returned home from the previous Premier League game with a 0-2 win against Everton. It is nothing new that there is trouble at Man Utd, but this time it has spread to the coach, the entire squad, supporters, sporting director and more. On Tuesday, very important meetings were held, the very prerequisite for United to be able to deliver against Chelsea.

The meeting was between Michael Carrick and his captain Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese was an unused substitute in the defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday, after he criticised Carrick’s tactics following the 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League. According to Sky Sports , the two met at the training ground on Tuesday.

“Sky Sports News has been told, that it was an open and honest discussion, where the head coach was satisfied that the row between them is over, although it is not known whether the midfielder apologised for the public criticism. The individual meeting between Carrick and Fernandes came in addition to a squad-wide meeting, where there was a renewed determination from all the players and staff that performance needs to be improved immediately. It was also a mutual admission, we have been told, that there has been an underperformance across the squad so far this season,” reports Sky Sports.

That means that all of the anger and frustration will have been blown out. Carrick, Bruno Fernandes and the rest of the United players are now focused on three tasks: Securing the best pre-season ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game, standing together – and winning against Chelsea.
