Jamie Carragher earns around a million pounds for commentating and making headlines. This time, one of the “headlines” could send the Liverpool legend a trip to the English courts.

The background is statements on the podcast “Stick to Football”, where Carragher discussed Villa head coach Unai Emery as a possible replacement for Michael Carrick at Manchester United earlier this week.

Here, Carragher argued that Manchester United is a much bigger club than Aston Villa, and that Emery would therefore naturally be interested in the job at Old Trafford.

“Of course he (Unai Emery) would like to have the opportunity to manage a big club again. There is a hierarchy in football, whether you like it or not,” Carragher began.

“Real Madrid, for example, can sign Manchester United’s best player. They did that with Cristiano Ronaldo. And there are clubs smaller than Aston Villa, where Villa can sign players or a coach. So shut up, Aston Villa fans. Aston Villa will never be Manchester United,” Carragher said, according to The Athletic.

This has caused a rumble in Birmingham.

On Friday, there was an official statement from Aston Villa, where chairman Nassef Sawiris announces a legal settlement with Carragher.

“Aston Villa will take legal action against Jamie Carragher over his unacceptable insults to the club and its fans. Aston Villa will not allow anyone to stand in the way of our progress in English and European football,” the statement reads.
