Manchester City have been found guilty of breaching FFP on 114 separate occasions between 2009 and 2018. The club intends to appeal as soon as the sentence imposed on them is determined.
According to reporter Ben Jacobs, the Premier League is pushing for a severe punishment – and he also dropped a bombshell about the EFL’s attitude to welcoming City into their divisions.
“My understanding is that the Premier League has been pushing for a significant, record-breaking, groundbreaking and strict points deduction – and even for Manchester City to be relegated.
“I can also exclusively tell you that if Manchester City are kicked out of the Premier League, the EFL plans to read the ruling and they are willing, in solidarity, to support the Premier League’s position and try to keep Manchester City out of the EFL as well.
“So there is a danger of a doomsday scenario where Manchester City could be thrown out of football completely.”
With a Man City exit from the Premier League now as a very real scenario, the club faces the reality of seeing most – if not all – of their star players disappear.
At the moment, the biggest superstar at the Etihad is Erling Haaland. According to a recent report from Football Insider, Arsenal and Real Madrid have quickly mobilized in anticipation of a brutal punishment and contacted the Norwegian’s camp.
And according to the latest from journalist Pete O’Rourke, Haaland has no intention of staying for a rebuild at Man City if they are relegated from the Premier League.

He stated, “The club is under no illusions that Haaland will not be willing to stay and help them fight their way back to the top.”
But while Haaland could well be on his way out if City are kicked out of the top flight, there is nothing to suggest that a deal can be done cheaply.
There is no relegation clause in the 26-year-old’s contract, despite reports to the contrary. Thus – and given that Haaland is arguably the world’s best striker and in the prime of his career – the numbers involved will be insane.

The Gunners tried and failed to sign Julian Alvarez last summer, while big money was obviously available given their late pursuit of Vinicius Junior.
If City’s punishment is severe, it is possible that Arsenal hijack Haaland and set the stage for a prolonged dominance period of a kind the Gunners have never experienced before.
