Claudio Ranieri led Leicester to the impossible Premier League title in the 2015/16 season. This week it became clear the English club is relegated – ten years after the Italian’s football miracle – to the 3rd division! That same week, Ranieri is sacked from his position at Roma.

The 74-year-old Ranieri stepped down as Roma coach after last season, but he continued in his role as a board member and senior advisor to the ownership. Gian Piero Gasperini took over the coaching job, but has come into conflict with Ranieri, who with three rounds as Roma coach clearly had overly strong opinions on how Gasperini should do the job.

The club has now removed Ranieri from the position to create peace of mind.

“The club would like to thank Claudio Ranieri for his significant contribution to AS Roma. He led the team through a very difficult period and we will always be grateful for his efforts,” the club wrote.

Then they come to the core, where Ranieri’s input and interference had to cease.

“Looking ahead, our direction is clear. The club is strong with solid leadership and a clearly defined vision. AS Roma will always come first. We have full confidence in the journey that awaits us under the technical leadership of Gian Piero Gasperini, with the common goal of developing, improving and achieving results that live up to our history.”
