Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa. Still young Sancho has been given his chances in the world’s toughest league without meeting expectations beyond individual games. United dumped Sancho on loan after the clash with Ten Hag, Chelsea paid £5 million to avoid signing Sancho on a permanent transfer after a loan period, while Aston Villa are not convinced enough this season on loan to sign the Englishman on a long-term contract. In the summer, the player will walk out as a free agent. The 26-year-old has made his choice.
Borussia Dortmund brought in their former superstar, Sancho, on loan for half a season in 2024. Here we saw the winger show some of the potential he had in the Dortmund shirt until his United transfer in 2021 for a wild €85 million. Still, Dortmund were not interested in meeting United’s transfer fee demands, nor Sancho’s sky-high salary expectations.

Now the situation is completely different. No big club is running down the door to sign Jadon Sancho on a free transfer this summer. Earlier this month, the Dortmund boss confirmed they are considering another reunion with the English player.
“We are currently looking at many players and analysing them. We are checking if they can make us better. We are doing the same with Jadon. Of course, we are looking for an attacking player who brings quality, can help us immediately and does not demand an unrealistic transfer fee,” Ricken told Bild.
This was a clear message to Jadon Sancho that he needs to put his finger in the ground and realize he is not a player to demand a juicy sign-on fee or salary terms as one of the club’s highest paid without delivering first.
According to German Sky Sports , Sancho has been in talks with his former club about a permanent transfer and given his “green light” to return to the Bundesliga club. It is now up to the club management whether they will pay the wage package that Sancho is demanding.
Reports suggest Sancho is willing to reduce his salary from around £300,000 per week by 50%, to facilitate a permanent transfer, aiming for a figure closer to €7 million per year.

We think Sancho will have to jack down the demand further to convince the club management. The 26-year-old did deliver the goods on loan, where he helped play the club all the way to the Champions League final, but cannot show continuity at the top level since his move to Man United in 2021.
