Besiktas became a completely different and much better team already in the first game as they had the pleasure of having Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm. And it worked.
One thing he has learned from his time at Manchester United, is not to hold on to stars who don’t bother anymore for too long.
Since joining the Turkish club, the 51-year-old is said to have been heavily involved in Besiktas’ activities during the January transfer window, trying to force the club to sign one of his most important players during his time at Manchester United.
But first, the focus is on exits: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided that he wants the club to get rid of one player who has actually won both the Premier League and the Champions League.
Sport Witness writes that it is about ex-Liverpool and Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Englishman joined Besiktas on a free transfer in August 2023, following the end of his six-year spell at Anfield.
Since then, Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled to make his mark at the Turkish club, making just 35 appearances and scoring just five goals in almost two years at the club.
The Blades were said to be interested in the 31-year-old last summer, and recent reports have claimed that they are once again considering making a bid. Should a bid come in, it is almost certain that Besiktas will accept, as Solskjaer is said to have informed the club that he intends to sign “his own players” in the near future.
An alternative “we think” is Rosengborg’s midfield talent Sverre Nypan.
And it is believed that Sheffield United are not the only club interested in Oxlade-Chamberlain’s current situation, as his agent has reportedly spoken to several parties about a potential transfer.
The midfield contract with Besiktas runs until June 2026, meaning now could be the perfect time for Solskjaer to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain if he hopes to bolster his squad in his first summer as manager.
