Nicolo Tresoldi is among four centre-forwards that Manchester United are following closely, following the news that Benjamin Sesko is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.
Moreover, on a general basis, Manchester United desperately need someone who really knows where the goal stands.
Erling Haaland has decided on “the next step”
Manchester United have since regretted not signing a new striker this summer. The Red Devils needed to replace Joshua Zirkzee to give Sesko better cover and competition at the top.
However, it wasn’t until the final days of the summer transfer window that Everton and Italian clubs made formal enquiries about Zirkzee. United thought it was then too late to get rid of the Dutchman and find a replacement – but they could instead bring in a new number 9 in January…
Man Utd’s top strikers
Tresoldi is arguably the most exciting of United’s four striker options.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle it out for Tresoldi, who has already scored 12 goals in just 14 appearances for Club Brugge this season.
In addition to Spurs, United will face competition from Chelsea and Manchester City for Tresoldi. The 22-year-old is valued at around £42 million.
Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace), Igor Matanovic (Freiburg) and Dion Beljo (Dinamo Zagreb) are also on United’s list.
Mateta has long been a target for the Red Devils, and he could become available for just £25 million in January as his contract comes to an end.
Manchester United are holding internal talks about whether to go for Freiburg’s star Matanovic, who is valued at £50 million.
Manchester United, Spurs and Everton have also been impressed by the Croatian international Beljo.
Sesko Damage Update
Sesko missed the end of last season with a calf injury. He returned to full match fitness during the summer, but the problem resurfaced against Brighton in September.
He has been out of action since, and United fans are waiting for news on when the 23-year-old could return.
According to reliable United journalist Laurie Whitwell, the team will have to do without Sesko until January.
Whitwell wrote: “Confirmed: Benjamin Sesko is out until at least January due to a calf injury.
“A rest period is necessary for the striker to fully recover.”

Nagelsmann boost
It has emerged that INEOS could save £6 million by hiring Julian Nagelsmann instead of Eddie Howe.
German journalist and presenter Constantin Eckner has told talkSPORT: “As I understand it, Nagelsmann would be interested, but he is not the favourite. Eddie Howe is the favourite, but Nagelsmann is ready.
“The DFB, the German Football Association, bought him out of his contract. So there is no obstacle.
“He can join whoever he wants, while Manchester United have to pay Newcastle United to get Eddie Howe as manager right now.”
To secure Howe, Man Utd will have to pay Newcastle United £3 million, plus an additional £3 million for his coaching staff.
