Last season, Pierre Sage led Ligue 1 club Lens to an adventurous journey that ended just six points behind the giant PSG at the top. The season before, the club finished in 8th place – 32 points away from the Paris club. Then success coach Sage disappeared to Crystal Palace, in came former Eintracht Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller. Five games later, the German is history at Lens.

1 win, 1 draw, two losses. Not a catastrophically bad start for Toppmöller, but Lens has still made the decision to end the employment relationship.

Here is the explanation on the club’s website:

– After a number of conversations about the well-being of the squad and the composition of the coaching staff, the club informed Toppmöller that they wanted to make changes to the staff. Since Dino Toppmöller did not agree with the new structure, the club made the decision to end the collaboration with the head coach and his two assistants.
