Amorim admits that the way he left Sporting for Manchester United was not the most desirable.
Rúben Amorim spoke to Sport TV about his move from Sporting to Manchester United in October 2024, the day before AC Milan faced Benfica in the Europa League.

— How do you view Sporting, who said goodbye to many players who trained there with you?
“Above all, they are playing very well. They need time to change a lot. They still have a lot of attacking capacity, but of course they change some things and they need time. People need patience – the cycles are like that. My affection for Sporting is there, even though they are very unhappy with me. What they gave me, and what I experienced there, will never change.

— Are there agreements that need to be made with Sporting in the future?
“I get into trouble every time I speak (laughs). Everyone knows the story. Maybe today I would have done things differently, but a person matures, and sometimes things happen… It’s nothing to do with going to Manchester, it’s about how it went. I understand that when you like a person very much, and it happens, they feel let down – but that’s part of football. My son is a Sportinguista and I have to watch the games every weekend. But there’s no peace to be made. I’m happy with life, and so are they. They just need time, because they’re building something special again.
