There is a lot of frustration to be traced during the day in Italian football, for the third World Cup in a row the country is not qualified and in Serie A the chair game is played on the manager fairly continuously. One who is often on the merry-go-round is Massimiliano Allegri, who has been fired after only one season.
Italian giants AC Milan are now considering throwing themselves into the race for a manager who can rebuild the team after a miserable season. – No one says it will be easy.

AC Milan have reportedly contacted a Premier League boss as their ideal target after they sacked Max Allegri.
It’s no secret that AC Milan had a completely disastrous end to the 2025/26 season. A 2-1 defeat to Cagliari on the final day of the season sent them from third to fifth place in Serie A.
RedBird Capital: “An unequivocal failure”
Shortly after the loss, AC Milan owners RedBird Capital published a statement in which they described the season as “an unequivocal failure”. They also confirmed that there would be a “comprehensive reorganization” in the club.
As a result, manager Allegri, as well as managing director Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada were all fired. – At the same time, special advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic had to have security guards to help him out of the stadium after the 1 – 2 loss against Cagliari on Sunday in the season finale.
Andoni Iraola – ideal replacement
Now it seems that the club board has already identified its ideal replacement. Several reports claim that Andoni Iraola has been approached to take over the Italian club.
Despite Iraola leading Bournemouth through a spectacular season, his departure from the club was confirmed several months ago. The Spaniard chose to end his three-year stay at the club after taking them to the European Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
More big clubs in line
The decision makes Iraola available as a free agent on the market, and more big clubs are expected to make contact during the summer.
Among them is Premier League rival Crystal Palace, who also lost their manager Oliver Glasner at the end of the season. Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have also expressed interest in securing Iraola’s signature.
If Liverpool were to part ways with manager Arne Slot during the summer or early next season, there is no doubt that Iraola – if he is still available – would be one of the names linked with the job at Anfield.
Other current names for AC Milan
If Iraola were to go elsewhere, AC Milan are also considering several other big names. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is said to be another key target after he led the Birmingham club to the Europa League title this season.
Xavi, who is still clubless after leaving Barcelona in 2024, former Juventus coach Thiago Motta, and Bologna’s Vincenzo Italiano are also said to be on AC Milan’s radar.
