That is what a clearly affected Harry Kane says after another heartbreaking exit from a major championship.
“There are no words big enough right now to overcome this empty feeling in my stomach. We were close – really close – another final, but it didn’t last. We have given everything in the last seven weeks, and to fall at the finish line is hard to swallow!
I know that expectations are high – and they should be. We have been knocking on the door for eight years now, but are still missing the last piece of the puzzle. That’s where we have to go away, process and find a way to get better.
I’m so proud of the guys and what we’ve shown throughout the championship – tough games and tough environments that we’ve overcome together. Some memories that will stay with us players – and I’m sure you supporters too – for a long, long time!
Going for glory doesn’t always mean you get it. You have to fight for it, get knocked down, get up again and go again. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do. There is no other way than to keep believing and keep pushing.
Thank you so much to every single fan who traveled and showed their support in the stadiums. Thank you to all the fans back home who believed in us. Thank you to the guys and the support staff for everything you have given.
As always: Win or lose – we learn and go again! 🏴🦁
