The forgotten Liverpool star has finally been given a second chance to revive his career.
Harvey Elliott has agreed a deal to leave Liverpool – putting an end to a disappointing return.

To say that Elliott has had a tough time this past year would be a gross understatement.
In September last year, the striker joined Aston Villa – after admitting that he did not want to “waste his years” at Liverpool, where he felt he was not guaranteed playing time.
The deal was an initial season-long loan – with an obligation to buy for £35 million, subject to various conditions in the loan agreement being met.
Elliot’s move to Villa Park would become permanent if he played ten Premier League games for his new club. But also at Unai Emery, he was sidelined – playing just four league games, a total of nine appearances.
Thus, he returned to Liverpool before the 2026/27 season – with his future still unclear. Would he stay at Anfield under Andoni Iraola’s new management, or leave the club again?
Ready for Valencia
Now, Elliott’s future has been decided. It has been confirmed that he will leave Liverpool for La Liga club Valencia – on a season-long loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish club, which finished 9th in La Liga last season, will cover the majority of Elliott’s salary. A medical test has already been booked.
Previous reports have claimed that Elliott’s Liverpool contract would expire next summer – which would mean that a loan in 2026/27 would be the same as accepting to lose him for free next year.
But that’s not true. The 23-year-old is under contract with Liverpool until the summer of 2028. That means he can either return to Liverpool and fight for his place next summer – or be sold permanently after one season at Valencia.
Iraola on the Elliott saga
Elliott played regularly for Iraola during his first pre-season as Liverpool manager – and impressed during his brief return with red.
It therefore came as a surprise that he was left out of the squad for the Premier League games against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
Iraola stated about the situation:
“With Harvey… I can only pick 20. Harvey is trying and improving every week, but I still prefer other options – in terms of balance on the bench.
“That’s why James McConnell was in the squad. But now it’s a new week and new opportunities for everyone. They have to keep that mentality.
Liverpool and Valencia have until Tuesday 1 September at 23:00 UK time – when the summer window officially closes – to finalise the deal.
