The London rivals are about to make transfer deals for only the second time since 2009 – and it could be a sensational double deal.
Tottenham have spent almost £400 million in the summer window after giving Roberto De Zerbi free rein to rebuild their squad after last year’s disappointing 17th place.
The upgrade was expected to be crowned with the signing of Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye for £60 million – a deal that the parties supposedly agreed in principle on Sunday.
Richarlison was supposed to go the opposite way in what was described as a separate deal. But the Brazilian has not agreed personal terms for a transfer worth £35 million – and has instead issued an unusually personal statement on social media.

Manchester City have now agreed to sign Ndiaye, and he is expected to complete the transfer before the window closes on Tuesday at 23:00.
As a result, Spurs have been forced to turn their gaze elsewhere – and are now in the process of signing two players from their bitter London rivals.
Spurs close in on sensational double deal with Chelsea
BBC Sport reported on Monday evening that Spurs had begun talks over a loan move for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk – who is free to leave Stamford Bridge temporarily.
Mudryk was allowed to return to football last month, after being suspended since failing a doping test in December 2024. The Ukrainian was banned for four years, but the appeal to CAS was “resolved”.
The FA stated that a change in WADA procedures since the failed test means that – if the sample had been taken today – the concentration of the banned substance meldonium would not have been reported, and he would not have violated any doping rules.
Prior to his £88 million move to Chelsea in January 2023, De Zerbi was the manager of Mudryk at Shakhtar Donetsk – and seems eager to reunite with the 25-year-old in north London.
But that is not the only deal that is likely to be completed between Spurs and Chelsea.
Tosin ready for Spurs
The Athletic reported on Monday night that Spurs had agreed a surprise purchase of centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo – on a permanent basis.
The 28-year-old has been made redundant at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.
It is reported that Spurs have agreed personal terms with Tosin, and he will undergo a medical test on Tuesday.
He will be the fifth centre-back Chelsea to get rid of this summer – after Trevoh Chalobah went to Como permanently, while Benoit Badiashile, Mamadou Sarr and Axel Disasi left the club on loan.
The last time Spurs and Chelsea traded directly with each other was in 2023, when young Jude Soonsup-Bell went to Spurs to join the development squad.
To find the last time a first-team player moved between clubs, you have to go all the way back to 2009. Goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was allowed to join Spurs on a free transfer in the winter window – and made 37 appearances across competitions for the next four years before joining LA Galaxy in 2013.
