If you don’t have all the money in the world, you have to be smarter and think alternatively. Especially when the people you’re competing with seem to have a treasure chest with no bottom.
Getafe are considering another loan coup, this time from Chelsea. The goal is to recreate the magic formula that sent Mason Greenwood back to the stars – with Mykhailo Mudryk.
Getafe are considering a season-long loan move for Mykhailo Mudryk, the 25-year-old Ukrainian winger at Chelsea. The Madrid-based club envisages a similar operation to the one they carried out with Mason Greenwood in 2023 – although there are no formal negotiations between the clubs yet.

Mudryk was recently given the go-ahead to return to football after being out since November 2024 due to an anti-doping case. The resolution of the matter allows the player to immediately resume training – and opens the door for Chelsea to consider a loan in this transfer window.
Getafe will repeat Greenwood operation
Getafe knows the recipe. Mason Greenwood arrived on loan from Manchester United on September 1, 2023 – after being out of first-team football for over a year. The attacker hadn’t played an official game for United for more than 12 months when he arrived at the Coliseum.
Greenwood played 36 games in all competitions in the 2023/24 season. His performances in Spain gave him back his stability – before he left Manchester United permanently to continue his career outside England.
Now Getafe wants to offer Mudryk a similar opportunity: A one-year loan, playing time in LaLiga, and an environment with less pressure than in London. The player must regain his rhythm after about 20 months of non-competitive football.
However, the situation is not identical. Mudryk has already been cleared to play, and Chelsea have announced that he will return to training with the group in the pre-season. The decision will primarily depend on Xabi Alonso’s sporting assessment.
Chelsea decide Mudryk’s future
Mykhailo Mudryk joined Chelsea in January 2023 from Shakhtar Donetsk. The transfer was carried out for a fixed sum of 70 million euros – with variables that could increase the total cost to 100 million.
The winger signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract, lasting until June 2031. The long contract allows Chelsea to approve a temporary loan without losing control of their rights.
Prior to his suspension, Mudryk had made 73 appearances for Chelsea. In the 2024/25 season, he participated in 15 games before the English federation reported the positive result of the test in October 2024.
The case was closed on July 31, 2026 through an agreement between the player, the English federation and the World Anti-Doping Agency. The suspension was reduced to already served time – and Mudryk can play without further waiting.
Training camp in Hong Kong decides
Chelsea plan to include the player in their pre-season camp in Hong Kong before deciding if he gets a place in the squad. A loan to Getafe will only be relevant if the coaching staff concludes that a season with regular playing time is the best way back to the top level.
The next step lies with Chelsea. If they open the door to a loan, Getafe will have to negotiate the wage distribution and convince Mudryk that LaLiga can give him the continuity Mason Greenwood found at the Coliseum.
