The sports world was shocked when 32-year-old Olympian Tori Bowie was found dead in her home on May 2. At that time, the cause of death of the athlete was not given. Now we know why Bowie died.

Tori Bowie, a triple Olympic medalist at Rio 2016, was found dead in her Winter Garden home in Florida. Authorities found the American athlete’s body on May 2 after a follow-up visit after Bowie had been silent for several days.

Sports Illustrated reports that an autopsy report from the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office showed that Bowie was eight months pregnant and died of natural causes when she went into labor at home. When Bowie went into labor, she lay down on the bed and died of eclampsia.

Bowie has not competed since June 4, 2022, and the year before she did not even participate in the trials for the Tokyo Games. Bowie won silver in the 100m, bronze in the 200m and gold in the 4x100m relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
