The World Cup, which was a historic upturn for Norway, was not so for Alexander Sørloth, who ended up a little on the side of the strategy of national team manager Ståle Solbakken.
The consequences for Alexander Sørloth could be great. Juventus, who agreed with the Norwegian striker on the personal and almost agreed with Atlético Madrid, are said to have lost interest and his girlfriends Lena Selnes have said there are some idiots who have made threats.

What many have reacted to his lack of passing to Haaland in the quarter-final against England. – In fact, the lack of interest from Juventus could bring Alexander Sorloth to the Premier League and Newcastle.
“Sørloth would be a perfect signing for Newcastle”
John Arne Riise believes his compatriot Alexander Sørloth would be ideal for Newcastle United. “He’s powerful, a goalscorer and fast. English football suits him very well,” says Riise.
Alexander Sørloth, who could have been in Avatar without adjusting for height, is suitable as a power striker in the Premier League, and we would also love to see a top scorer duel in the Premier League between our two leading strikers.
Norway is out of the World Cup, but in our opinion, Alexander Sørloth left a good impression in an unfamiliar role. The 30-year-old started five of Norway’s six games in the championship – the only one he missed was when Norway rested ten of eleven first-choice games against France.
At Atlético Madrid, he is not a regular starter. Last season, he started 20 La Liga games and came off the bench for 15 – scoring 13 goals. The season before, he started 15 and was a substitute in 20 – but scored a whopping 20 goals.
Now John Arne Riise believes that the time has come for a change of club.
“I think Alexander Sørloth would be a great signing for Newcastle United. I think he has to leave Atlético Madrid. It’s tough for him there,” Riise says to The Mag.

“Of course he plays for Norway on the right wing because Erling Haaland is through the middle, but he is powerful, a goalscorer and fast. I think English football suits him very well. I really hope Sørloth goes to an English club, and Newcastle United would be perfect, says Riise.
A bumpy career – with great potential
Sørloth’s career has been anything but straight line. He impressed in Denmark with Midtjylland and was brought to Crystal Palace for £9 million as a 22-year-old. It was a nightmare period – he didn’t score a single Premier League goal.
Loans to Ghent and Trabzonspor followed. In Turkey, he exploded with 24 goals in 34 games, and RB Leipzig bought him for £16 million. But just five goals in 30 games later, he was on loan again.
In 2021/22, he played alongside Alexander Isak at Real Sociedad. Isak scored six goals in 32 games, Sørloth four in 33. Now Isak is at Liverpool (after success at Newcastle), and Sørloth has settled in at Atlético Madrid – where he has finally shown what he is capable of.
Newcastle – but at what cost?
Riise thinks Newcastle would be perfect, but the question is whether the club is willing to pay for a 30-year-old. Atlético Madrid paid almost £30 million for him two years ago. What do they want now?
Newcastle have so far this summer focused on young talent from the continent – not expensive signings of players on the “wrong side of 30”, but Sørloth has shown that he can deliver at the very highest level.

The question is whether Newcastle are ready to make exceptions – or whether Sørloth will have to find another club in the Premier League.
I’m guessing Alexander Sørloth in the Premier League next season will deliver at least 20 goals.
