Portugal were knocked out by Spain in the last eight, and the World Cup campaign ended far earlier than anyone had hoped.
After the loss, Bernardo Silva took to Instagram to express his frustration – both his own and the team’s.
“It was a frustrating World Cup”
“It was a frustrating World Cup and a great disappointment that it ended much earlier than we had all imagined,” he wrote.
“It was and will always be a great honour to represent our national team. Thank you very much to all the Portuguese for the support and hope you gave us.”
Bernardo Silva ended his contract with Manchester City and now joins Real Madrid as a free agent. According to several reports, he will receive a signing bonus of 10 million euros – but the World Cup exit is probably still deep.
