Arsenal are facing renewed interest in Riccardo Calafiori, and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly named the Italian international as his preferred option to bolster the left side of the defence in 2027.
Calafiori has become one of Mikel Arteta’s most important defenders this season, combining defensive strength with the ability to enter midfield and create possession.

That versatility is exactly what Mourinho is supposed to admire – but Arsenal have no intention of making a deal easy.
Mourinho identifies Calafiori as priority target
TEAMtalk reports that Jose Mourinho sees the 24-year-old as his “dream” signing and the number one left-back option available. Real Madrid have already investigated his situation, while people close to the player are aware of the interest.

Arsenal are still in a strong position. Calafiori is under contract until 2029, and the club reportedly plans to handle his deal in 2027 after completing extensions for Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, and Jurrien Timber.
CaughtOffside has also reported that Arsenal will demand more than €100 million before they even consider a sale – which shows how much they value him.
Arteta has previously spoken warmly of Calafiori, saying: “I love him. I think he is a person with unique charisma and personality.” He also described the defender as “a player with incredible ability” and “a gem”.

From Arsenal’s perspective, this is not a player they should try to sell.
Calafiori gives Arteta something very difficult to replace: a defender who can play left-back, centre-back and step into midfield without weakening the team’s structure.
Real Madrid’s interest is understandable, but Arsenal have almost all the power.
The Calafiori is tied for the long term, remains happily in North London and is now firmly established as the first choice.
Even a large offer would create a difficult replacement problem.
Unless the player himself is pushing for a transfer, Arsenal should see Madrid’s interest as a compliment rather than an opportunity to make money.
At this stage, keeping Calafiori is much more worthwhile than selling him.
