When Arne Slot left Feyenoord in the summer of 2024 to replace Jürgen Klopp at Anfield, the Feynoord supporters were well used to vying for titles. The Eredivisie title was picked up in the 2022/23 season, the 2022/23 season was the cup title. In Slot’s debut season, 2021/22, Feyenoord went all the way to the Europa League final with a narrow loss to Roma. For the coaches who have come after Slot, expectations have been on a par with new titles, Robin van Persie is now getting to feel this.

The Rotterdam club finished second in the Eredivisie this season, securing a place in the Champions League, but it seems that this is not enough for van Persie to keep his job as head coach. The former Manchester United star was hired as Feyenoord coach at the end of February 2025 to replace Brian Priske, who had been fired.

Van Persie has led the club for 58 games, his contract with Feyenoord was set to expire in the summer of 2027. Dévy Rigaux was presented as the new technical director at Feyenoord at the end of May, the new director would not give any guarantees about head coach Robin van Persie’s future in Rotterdam, and the explanation for this is simple.

According to several major Dutch media outlets, including De Telegraaf and Voetbal International, Robin van Persie has been fired with immediate effect. Feyenoord has not yet confirmed or denied the story.
