The French newspaper L’Equipe earlier this week came with surprising news: Kjetil Knutsen (57) was supposedly high on the wish list of Ligue club Strasbourg. The parties are even said to have come a long way in talks about a change of club for the Bodø/Glimt boss.
One requirement is said to have been speed and although it was tempting for the Norwegian success coach to take a bigger job, it was not an option to leave Bodø/Glimt today. – Besides, it would leave the club ribbed back.
Casualties
Last season, Bodø/Glimt “gave” Viking the Eliteserien gold and this year they are also a little behind. However, the timing is a bit strange, a couple of weeks ago the news came that coach Gaute Helstrup, who was seen as the crown prince of the club, left to take over Allsvenskan club Malmö. – Aasmund Bjørkan has also been in Bodø/Glimt for several decades, both as a player, coach, scout and more, he is leaving the club.
Well, that will not be the case Strasbourg has found a different replacement for Gary O’Neil who recently took over Ipswich than Kjetil Knutsen.
Bodø/Glimt have been in Oslo today and taken three points from KFUM. Easy Bodø/Glimt victory even though Patrick Berg, Jens Petter Hauge and Fredrik Bjørkan were at work for Norway
The choice has instead fallen on the Portuguese Hugo Oliveira (47). He has previously been an assistant to current Benfica coach Marco Silva at clubs such as Hull, Watford, Everton and Fulham.
Strasbourg had to spend 2 million euros to buy Oliviera free from Famalicão.
The latter club just finished the 2025-26 season in a strong fifth place in Portugal’s top league – only beaten by giants Sporting, Porto and Benfica, as well as the far more merited local rival Braga.
Oliveira is said to have won the battle for the job ahead of former Celtic coach Wilfried Nancy, and Get French Football News.
Thus, there will be no French adventure for Kjetil Knutsen this time. But the interest from a club like Strasbourg testifies to the fact that the Bodø/Glimt coach is still highly valued far beyond Norway’s borders.
