A giant in the Norwegian national team shirt. Not only does Kristoffer Ajer tower almost two meters above the turf and use his physique for all it’s worth, he has developed into a centre-back rock that stops attacking stars throughout the season. Now he is no longer content with stopping strikers – now he also takes over their job!
In the Premier League, six clubs have failed to beat Brentford. In all games, the Norwegian international has been on the pitch from start to finish. Before the international break, a sloppy Xabi Alonso and Chelsea squad were sent home with football practice at the Brentford Community Stadium. One of the Premier League’s biggest clubs left Brentford with three back-to-backs, zero goals and zero points. Defensive general Ajer and the rest of the Brentford team made sure to close the gap, where even the club with one of the league’s most attacking games under Alonso could not find an opening.

This was the defensive giant Ajer. Against Portugal away from home in the Nations League, we also got to see the offensive Ajer. It’s nothing new that the centre-back eagerly flies up in attack when the opportunity arises, but this time it wasn’t to stand inside the box waiting for a high ball. This time he was ready outside the box with his shooting foot ready. The rest is history:
And, What does Ajer do when he returns to the Premier League? Places his surfboard on a “scoring wave” and saves points for Brentford with a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa away from home.
For us, Kristoffer Ajer is well on his way to becoming the complete center back who bothers the opponents’ attacking players – and defenders!
