Last season started with doubts as to whether Daniel Farke could lead Leeds at least to survival in the Premier League after new promotion. The German showed in the second part of the season that his football is paying off. Now the gang from Elland Road has set the hairy goal next season of a ticket to play in Europe. The signing of City goalkeeper James Trafford to a club-record £45 million was the first part of the plan on the transfer market, including a veteran with 300 Bundesliga appearances.
According to German Florian Plettenberg, Leeds United are on track to complete the signing of an ultra-experienced centre-back who will offset the expected departure of Sebastiaan Bornauw.

Harry Wilson will bring creativity in the final third, while there are big changes in the centre-back ranks. Pascal Strujik was sold to Brighton, while around £34 million was spent on the arrival of Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo. Now the 30-year-old Nico Elvedi will be brought in from Borussia MönchenGladback.
The 29-year-old has over 300 Bundesliga games and 73 caps for Switzerland, personal terms are said to be finalized with Leeds, where a contract until 2029 is awaiting signing.
“Leeds are preparing a bid and are expected to submit it soon. Borussia Mönchengladbach are ready to sell at the right price (around £9 million),” reports the German journalist.

Elvedi is not new to Farke, as the German was the defender’s manager during his tenure at Mönchengladbach before taking over at Leeds. With 6 World Cup matches for Switzerland at Elvedi this summer, the last 90 minutes against Argentina in the quarter-finals, Leeds supporters are in for a treat. This will be a solid reinforcement in the defense.
