More than 150 days since the last club match. For Ørjan Nyland, it is starting to be urgent. Without playing time outside of national team duty, it does not take major mistakes on the field for the “verdict” to fall in the Norwegian media. We cheer for Nyland, and finally got the opportunity to cheer with our national team goalkeeper again.
At RB Leipzig, Maarten Vandevaardt has impressed in his role as the first goalkeeper, so far the Belgian 24-year-old has kept Nyland firmly on the bench, but last week Bild journalist Sten Hornig reported that there is a good chance that Ørjan Nyland will get playing time in the coming weeks.

“Vandevoordt has been outstanding for Leipzig after the international break. But having said that, RB Leipzig’s plans for Nyland have not changed. Coach Martin Demichelis has recently made it clear that he needs two solid goalkeepers. That means that he will clearly need Nyland. From what I hear, he is training well and he will get games. If he does not get injured, he is expected to start against Essen in the cup on October 27,” the German journalist told Nettavisen.
Hornig was “wrong”. Because on Saturday, Leipzig coach Martin Demichelis gave Nyland the chance from the start already in the Bundesliga match against SV Elversberg. Nyland has trained well and deserved the opportunity – which he took very good care of. RB Leipzig hammered in four goals and Nyland kept a clean sheet. This with a great save before halftime and close to an assist after a long kick against Tidiam Gomis.
