Jadon Sancho was once considered one of England’s greatest talents. After delivering so well in Germany and dominating the Bundesliga, clubs circled around his signature and he seemed to be heading for a brilliant career.
But in recent years, he has chosen a different path. After a £70 million move to Manchester United, he was unable to set Old Trafford on fire. After loan spells at Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund and even Chelsea, he has now ended up clubless.

He is still young, and although he has not yet been signed by a new club, there are rumours that several clubs are trying to sign the former Manchester City academy player.
Now the proposal from one of the interested clubs has leaked – and it is far from what Sancho once earned.
From £250,000 to £10,000 a week
As a free agent, Sancho can join a club whenever he wants, and is therefore a good option for clubs who desperately need reinforcements even though the transfer window is closed until January.
However, due to a few bad years, Sancho has struggled to attract interest from big European clubs – and he is no longer able to claim the salary he received at the peak of his career. “He tried with Borussia Dortmund, which he has actually had success with, also as a loan player, but had no plans to continue his Manchester United salary.
According to The Telegraph, Spanish club Getafe have shown interest in the England winger and have reportedly offered him a contract. The proposed deal is rumoured to pay Sancho around £10,000 a week – a huge drop from the lucrative deal at Old Trafford, which reportedly paid him £250,000 a week.
Although Sancho has not accepted the contract yet, he is curious about the idea and believes La Liga can be a good platform to renew his career and get back to the top.
Sancho wants to meet Getafe coach José Bordalás before putting pen to paper on any deal. Bordalás has recently been critical of his club and believes they failed in this summer’s recruitment.
Sancho’s United salary
The proposed offer from Getafe will give Sancho an income of approximately £335,000 until the end of the season in June, when his contract expires. For the average person, there is still a significant sum to be earned until the summer. For Sancho, however, it is a big step down from what he once earned.
Following his £70 million move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United in 2021, it was reported that he earned £250,000 every single week. That means he would earn his suggested Getafe salary in just over a week if he were still at United.
Even during his loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa – where he won the Europa League – he was still earning his £250,000 a week, with the two clubs sharing the costs.
Why say yes to 10,000?
From the outside, signing a contract worth just over £10,000 a week can seem confusing when you’ve recently earned over 20 times as much. But for Sancho, it presents a good opportunity to enjoy football again and establish himself as a difficult winger.
