After 25 years and 94 days – the longest stay between games – Coventry are once again a Premier League team. During their absence in the top flight, they have experienced three relegations, played in four different stadiums and had 15 different managers. After Mark Robins laid the foundations by leading them back through the divisions, Frank Lampard took them the final step last season, when they finished 11 points ahead of nearest challengers Ipswich Town.
It’s been a while now, but Sky Blues fans have fond memories of a trip to the red side of North London on the opening day of a Premier League season. In fact, they won 3-0 at Highbury in August 1993, thanks to a hat-trick by Micky Quinn. Coventry have spent over £120 million in an attempt to consolidate their Premier League status, bringing in nine different players – most notably by completing permanent deals for Carl Rushworth and Frank Onyeka, while securing Gustavo Hamer’s return.
