Liverpool are stepping up their search for Mo Salah’s replacement. The Egyptian superstar with now 255 goals as the club’s third highest scoring player, leaves a crater that needs to be filled. Now there are strong signals that everything is being done for a teenager to take – and grow into this role.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and PSG are all closely linked to Yan Diomande, but now it is reported that Liverpool intend to keep their rivals at bay and follow the signing of the RB Leipzig player all the way in.

According to Teamtalk’s sources, the Merseyside club have done more groundwork than any of their rivals with the 19-year-old, having identified Diomande first during his time in Spain with Leganes before moving to Germany. Since then, Liverpool scouts have been closely following his development throughout what is now his first full season in European football, and their patience is now starting to take shape.

Back in December, “insider” Fraser Fletcher’s sources reported that Liverpool were in what was described as daily contact about a deal for the RB Leipzig star. The talks are progressing, the goal is to land a contract before the World Cup finals in June.

Diomande has had a sensational season with Leipzig, with 13 goals and 6 assists, mainly from the right wing. His performances have convinced Liverpool’s recruitment team that he has the qualities to be a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah.
