Liverpool have received what must be described as a clear warning in their pursuit of Bournemouth winger Rayan: There will be no special treatment just because Andoni Iraola knows the player well.
The Reds have been following the 20-year-old Brazilian for a long time, and Iraola knows him particularly well from their time together on the south coast. However, Bournemouth are determined to protect one of their most valuable players. A huge buyout clause becomes active in 2027.

Bournemouth are demanding the full £130 million buyout clause
According to ESPN Brazil journalist Bruno Andrade, Liverpool’s interest is real, but the club has yet to make a formal bid for Bournemouth.
Several big European clubs will also position themselves before the clause becomes active.
Andrade explained:
“The message is loud and clear, and there is not a discount of a single cent.”
He continued:
“Whoever wants to sign Rayan in January – either from the Premier League or another European club – will have to pay the value of the clause.”
Andrade added:
“There will be no discount, no lower payment. It’s either that, or the player stays.”
The clause sits at around £130 million – an amount that would force Liverpool to break their own transfer record again. Bournemouth are in a strong negotiating position, as Rayan has a contract until 2031.
He joined from Vasco da Gama in a deal that was potentially worth around €35 million. That means his value has risen dramatically in less than a year.
Rayan makes a lot of sense for Liverpool
The Reds are still looking for a specialist on the right side of the attack, and Iraola already understands the player’s strengths, personality and tactical requirements. That familiarity reduces some of the uncertainty that normally accompanies a £100m buy.
But £130 million completely changes the conversation.
Liverpool have shown that they are willing to pay huge sums of money for priority goals, but paying the full clause would make Rayan one of the most expensive players in Premier League history.
At 20, he still has enormous potential, but Bournemouth clearly believe they have all the cards.
Liverpool are thus faced with a simple choice: decide that Rayan is worth another record investment – or move on and find better value elsewhere.
Iraola’s connection could make Liverpool more confident in the player. However, it does not make him cheaper.
