Barcelona fear Rodri will still be in Manchester on Friday

Rodri is confident of reaching an agreement with Barcelona – but the transfer is taking longer than expected. Now Barça are racing against the clock to get the deal done within 48 hours.

Barcelona and Rodri had planned for the signing to be completed by next Friday. But the days go by, and the deal is delayed by financial disagreements between the clubs – disagreements that are not insurmountable, but which make the process slower than hoped. Barça are picking up the pace to get negotiations with City done within two days, but those leading the talks are starting to doubt whether they will be able to do so.

Barcelona are confident that Rodri will wear the Barça shirt for the 26/27 season. He himself does not doubt. He is also confident that the transfer will be completed this week. But what no one in Barça’s management dares to guarantee is that the deal will be signed within 48 hours – thus preventing the international from attending City’s training. Maresca already said it a few days ago:

“For now, he will be in Manchester on Friday.

Negotiations are ongoing – but there is quite a long distance

The negotiations are progressing, and the contact between the parties is close. Barça’s deal with Rodri was struck a few days ago, but the financial differences – not irreconcilable – are delaying the process.

Barcelona made an initial bid of €50 million for the midfielder, who has one year left on his contract in Manchester. The bid was rejected. The Premier League team is demanding around 70 million euros, and the parties are now trying to get closer to each other – with the goal of landing on between 60 and 65 million, including variables.

There is good harmony and good communication between the clubs. Barcelona do not rule out that the deal could be signed in the next 48 hours – although the management realizes that time is very short.

Rodri aware of the situation

The 30-year-old midfielder is aware of the details of the operation. He knows that he will most likely have to travel to Manchester – the city he has played in since 2019 – if the deal is not completed before the weekend.

It seems unlikely that City and Rodri will come to the same solution as Barça and Ferran Torres. Torres on Tuesday asked for permission to skip training in order to complete his transfer to PSG.

If the Rodri operation is as far advanced as Barça wants, nothing is ruled out. Although he has not completed a medical test with Barcelona yet, it is imminent, and he could theoretically avoid attending City’s training.

That will be determined by how the negotiations develop over the next few hours. Barça are racing against the clock.
