Manchester United are expected to carry out a medical test on Sunday for Michael Carrick’s first-ever signing as the club’s new permanent manager. At the same time, talks are underway about a deal that will be an outstanding second signing at Old Trafford.
The expected signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson has been delayed because the player was named in Brazil’s World Cup squad at the last minute, after Roma star Wesley suffered an injury.

Now, United are ready to sign the 26-year-old for a transfer fee of £35 million, plus a further £4 million in potential performance-based bonuses.
And Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport has revealed that Ederson will finally undergo his medical test for United – in New York on Sunday.
The revelation came late Saturday night: “Ederson – United, here we go. After the game against Morocco, the Brazilian midfielder will undergo a medical test in New York before his transfer to Manchester United. After that, he will finally be able to commit to the English club.”
“This is a hugely important deal: €45 million for Atalanta. A transfer was effectively closed almost a month ago to beat Atletico Madrid, and now only the final formalities remain. Tomorrow [Sunday], exactly. Then come the signatures. The player, who was born in 1999 and is ready to say goodbye to Atalanta, has been taken out by Ancelotti to replace the injured Wesley, and is currently playing for the Seleção in the World Cup.”
Manchester United speed up their pursuit of Newcastle star
United, meanwhile, are looking for new options on the left, including a new full-back and a new winger – and there could have been a breakthrough when it comes to the full-back.
Newcastle defender Lewis Hall is one of the left-backs linked with a move to Old Trafford. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Man Utd have “kept in touch alive and active with those close to the player”.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “I want to mention something about Manchester United, because for the last two or three days, Manchester United have kept in touch alive and active with those who are close to Lewis Hall, the left-back from Newcastle.”
“Manchester United got in touch a few weeks ago. Manchester United have a genuine interest in the player.”
“They really like Lewis Hall, so he’s one of the targets. Of course, we know Manchester United are going to be busy with midfielders – that part of the pitch is still a priority for Man Utd, because Ederson is coming, Ederson is in the box.”
“But after Ederson there will be another midfielder – there could be at least two, we’ll see – but one more midfielder will join Manchester United. And left-back is still a position they want to cover.”
“Lewis Hall is a player they really, really love at Manchester United.”
At the same time, United are considering bringing in a United States international who completely dominated in his nation’s World Cup opener – and who the data suggests may be even better than Rodri.
