Strømmen IF has found its new head coaches. Svein Roger Pettersen and Marcus Ericson have both been part of the coaching staff around the A-team this season – now the duo will be responsible for leading the team forward.
Strømmen has seen a clear development recently. Everyday training has improved, performance has improved. When the club now names the future, they chose to look internally.

The solution is Svein Roger Pettersen and Marcus Ericson – two coaches who already know the group of players well.
Pettersen: From NTG and Lyn to Strømmen
Svein Roger Pettersen is no newcomer to football Norway. For many years, he has worked as a football coach at the Norwegian Elite Sports Gymnasium (NTG) – a school that has fostered a number of the country’s best players.
At the same time, he has built up solid experience from top-flight football. Pettersen has been an assistant coach in Lyn both in the Tippeligaen and the 1st division, worked as a top player developer – and he also has experience as a head coach in Asker.
In short: He has the breadth, the experience and the expertise.
Ericson: The Moldensian who helped secure promotion
Marcus Ericson came to Strømmen before last year’s season. The Moldenser, with a past in Træff, quickly became an important piece in the coaching staff.
Together with the rest of the support staff, he helped lead the club through the promotion season – one of the most important periods in Strømmen’s recent history. Now he will have an even greater responsibility together with Pettersen.
The development has been clear
Although the coaching duo is now formally taking over, they have already been in charge for a period. The results are not long in coming.
“There has been clear progression both in training and performance since they took over the responsibility. We believe that the duo can continue and reinforce the development that has begun,” says general manager Jan Martin Knashaug.
This is how Strømmen is doing in the 2nd division
Strømmen IF plays in the 2nd division, division 1, after the promotion from the 3rd division in the 2025 season.
So far in 2026, it has been a demanding transition back to the level the team was promoted from. After nine games played, Strømmen stands with one win, one draw and seven losses. The table position is currently last place, with 4 points – three points up to a safe place.
The club has conceded 18 goals and scored 9, and the hunt for points is intensely present.
Working to strengthen the sporting organization
Although the coaching responsibility has now been clarified, the work of developing the sporting organization around the A-team does not stop. The club is already looking at the possibilities of further strengthening the coaching staff.
The goal is clear: Strengthen the daily work and facilitate continued sporting development – regardless of which division the team is in next year.
Why the choice fell on internal employees
By giving responsibility to Pettersen and Ericson, Strømmen ensures continuity. The duo knows the players, knows the culture and has already shown that they can deliver results – both in the promotion season and in the clear progression recently.
For Strømmen, this is not just about results here and now. It’s about building something over time. With Pettersen’s broad background and Ericson’s knowledge of the promotion team, the club has laid the foundation for exactly that.
Now it remains to be seen if the duo can reverse the trend and lead Strømmen away from the bottom battle – and perhaps surprisingly enough into a new promotion battle.
