Atalanta midfielder Ederson is one of Manchester United’s main targets.

Manchester United are planning another exciting summer transfer window. A journalist now claims that up to eight new players could come to Old Trafford – enough to give Michael Carrick one of the world’s very best squads.

The summer of 2025 was a huge success for United. The club brought in Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, which completely transformed the attack. In addition, Senne Lammens came in as the new goalkeeper. All four have played important roles in the lift under Carrick – who has now secured Champions League qualification for next season.

The fact that Manchester United are back in Europe’s most prestigious competition also gives them a far better starting point to capture their main goals this summer.

Midfield first in line

After the attacking line is in place, United’s next priority is to strengthen the midfield. Manuel Ugarte is expected to follow Casemiro out of Old Trafford.

But INEOS also needs to strengthen several other parts of Carrick’s team. Transfer reporter Ben Jacobs suggests that as many as eight new players could come in during an absolutely insane transfer window.

“I don’t think you’re trying to reach a certain number, you just have to stick to the budget,” he told The United Stand.

“It’s about them feeling they get value for their money. Because when you make six, seven or eight signings in one window, there is a risk of being cheated if you are not precautionary.

“I know people will say: ‘I just want a number. I want to know that Manchester United are spending £110 million on Sandro Tonali.” But it’s not that simple.

“They will spend either more or less – depending on whether they see value in the agreement.

Ederson first out – then Tonali?

Atalanta midfield star Ederson looks set to be Carrick’s first signing in his tenure as United boss.

On Wednesday, we were able to confirm that United are “moving on” in talks with Atalanta, where the goal is to land Ederson for approximately £38 million. Personal terms are already in place, and now United are working on the final details of the Brazilian’s new contract.

According to Italian source Tuttomercatoweb, the Red Devils will then “pursue” Newcastle star Sandro Tonali – as soon as the Ederson deal is sealed.

United know that Elliot Anderson is close to joining rivals Manchester City. Therefore, they would rather Tonali play alongside Ederson in midfield next season.

TMW reported at the weekend that United are “close to a deal” with Newcastle for Tonali, who is priced at €100 million (approximately £87 million). In addition, West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes is another important midfield target for Carrick’s team.

Major troop renewal in store

After two midfielders are in place, United are expected to chase a new left winger, left-back and centre-back.

A right-back, striker and goalkeeper can also come – depending on sales and finances.

By selling players such as Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee, Andre Onana and Ugarte, United can raise significant funds for these projects. The club has also reduced wage costs by letting the contracts of Jadon Sancho, Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia expire. Rasmus Hojlund has long since gone permanently to Napoli for £38 million.

Who are the goals?

When it comes to specific names in the aforementioned positions, United are very fond of Morgan Rogers – who can flourish both as a left winger and as a ten. Other current left-wing targets are Iliman Ndiaye, Yan Diomande and Rafael Leão.

At left-back, United would like to see Lewis Hall from Newcastle. But the Magpies will do everything they can to keep the 21-year-old talent.
