Manchester City are in the midst of some real storms that will follow the club for a long time. Found guilty of breaching the Financial Fair Play rules 114 times between 2009 and 2018 will have major consequences for the Manchester club. Work is already being done on what-if scenarios, where the big City stars make themselves available on the market. Manchester United have one player in particular on the block if the opportunity arises.

Former chief scout for Man United, Mick Brown, gives an analysis of the situation in Manchester.

“I’ve seen it mentioned that Man United could go after Elliot Anderson if Man City are relegated. It’s a big ‘if’ there, because there’s a lot to happen before something like that can be talked about, but we can speculate on the possibility for now,” Brown told Football-Insider.

“Man United are big fans of Anderson, he was their ideal target to strengthen the midfield in the summer, but the deal was not possible because of the money. He ended up going to Man City for a record sum, but if they get kicked out of the Premier League and he becomes available, there is a real chance that Man United can take advantage of that,” says the former United chief scout.

Andersen represents energy, ball-carrying abilities and flexibility in midfield, while already having significant Premier League experience. United were looking for exactly that kind of profile before his move to City.
