Ruben Amorim has yet to sign a player from Manchester United since taking over AC Milan – but that could soon change.

AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim is planning his first signing from Manchester United since he was sacked at the club.

Bruno Fernandes – Simeone’s dream goal

Amorim took over Milan at the beginning of the summer after a break from football following the United exit. Milan are unbeaten in five Serie A games, with three wins and two draws – and are in fifth place during the international break.

Milan have spent big money under Amorim so far: winger Diego Moreira arrived from Strasbourg for €50 million, while the club broke a club-record €74 million for striker Gonçalo Ramos. Now Amorim is turning his attention back to Old Trafford.

AC Milan keen on unwanted Man Utd striker Joshua Zirkzee

According to Italian newspaper Calciomercato, Milan are “ready” to make a push to sign striker Joshua Zirkzee in the January window.

The Italian giant failed in his attempts to sign the Dutch international before joining United in 2024, but may have a better chance this time around.

Zirkzee has only played 70 minutes in all competitions for United this season, and all four of his appearances have come from the bench. It is claimed that United are ready to let him leave the club in January.

Zirkzee previously played in Serie A for Cagliari before moving to Old Trafford, and he was linked with transfers to Juventus and Roma in the summer.

However, according to reports, Milan are considering whether to “make another attempt” to sign the 25-year-old in the upcoming window.

It is noted that Amorim currently only have Gonçalo Ramos and Francesco Camarda available as striker options, after Milan allowed Lorenzo Colombo and Rafael Leão to leave the club permanently this summer. The club also chose not to extend Niclas Füllkrug’s loan from West Ham.

“They talk a lot…” – Ruben Amorim’s thin jab at former Man Utd players

Amorim remained remarkably silent publicly about his time at United in the months following his exit, with reports claiming that he did not want to create distractions while Michael Carrick’s side looked towards securing Champions League football.

That has changed since his arrival at the San Siro, where Amorim has made many references to his former club – and some of his more vocal critics.

Last month, during a press conference, he was asked how a number of AC Milan legends had commented on his time in charge so far, and he referred to how he experienced the same at United.

“I was at a club [United] before with a lot of legends,” he said. “And they have strong opinions, and they talk a lot about things. They lived in a time that was completely different.”
