The player United considered as an emergency solution in the final hours of the transfer window was Rayan Ait-Nouri.
According to the sources, United made an initial enquiry with their city rivals for the Algerian left-back. The former Wolves star joined City last summer but only started 12 Premier League games in his first season under Pep Guardiola, losing his place in the line-up to Nico O’Reilly.
So far this season, he has yet to play under Enzo Maresca, as an unused substitute in the Community Shield and in both Premier League games so far against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.
