United’s preferred target was Nathaniel Brown, then Lewis Hall – but neither deal came to fruition.
Bayern Munich eventually secured Brown, while Newcastle United insisted that Hall was not for sale until the England international later signed a new contract at St James’ Park.
That forced United to explore alternative options, Seys was a player who particularly appealed to Jason Wilcox’s recruitment team.
Manchester United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is also an admirer of the 21-year-old and still appreciates his qualities.
This interest has been confirmed by further scouting, Manchester United had representatives present during Club Brugge’s last clash against Genk.
Brugge won 3–0, and Seys delivered an outstanding game in which he helped keep a clean sheet while also creating two of the team’s goals.
His contribution underlined why he remains of interest to United, with the Belgian offering the attacking qualities and defensive reliability the club have been looking for in the left-back.
