Manchester United have started talks over a possible transfer to strengthen their winger position – and the target is one of Europe’s most sought-after names.
Much of United’s focus in the transfer window has been on midfield, but they have experienced several setbacks. Mateus Fernandes and Elliot Anderson have gone to Tottenham and Manchester City respectively – and the Red Devils will now have to look for other options.

The midfield is still the number one priority, but United’s management acknowledges that they need to strengthen in several areas to be able to compete in the Champions League next season.
Michael Carrick needs a deeper and more competitive squad to handle all fronts – and that means it could be a busy summer for the Manchester club.
Rafael Leao in Manchester United’s spotlight
According to Gazzetta, Manchester United have already held talks over a transfer for AC Milan winger Rafael Leão.
Milan are said to demand at least €60 million to release the Portuguese – and the interest extends far beyond the Premier League. Clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are also watching, but United have taken a concrete step.
Leão has a huge buyout clause, but Milan are reportedly willing to accept a lower amount to approve a sale.
Wants away from Milan
Leão himself has confirmed that he wants to leave Milan in this transfer window – something that has sparked interest from several top clubs in Europe.
United are one of the clubs that have made contact, but it remains to be seen if the interest develops into an official bid.
Bringing Leão to Old Trafford would be a signal of power from the Red Devils. The Portuguese striker, described as “one of Europe’s best wingers”, is undoubtedly an uneven player – but he has the star quality that can decide a game on his own.
Just what United are missing?
Leão would have added raw speed and directness – something United largely lack on the left side of the attack. He would have immediately pushed for a place in the starting eleven.
But the competition for his signature is fierce. United are facing interest from several quarters, so they will need to act quickly if they are to secure one of the most attractive wingers of the summer.
One thing is certain: if Manchester United are to compete on all fronts next season, they must soon start turning interest into action.
