Newcastle United have made it crystal clear to Manchester United that Lewis Hall is not for sale this summer – despite the full-back being open to a move to Old Trafford.
We revealed earlier this summer that Hall was Manchester United’s preferred target at left-back – to bolster Michael Carrick’s squad ahead of his return to the Champions League.

Manchester United see the 21-year-old as the ideal long-term replacement for Luke Shaw – while also providing immediate competition for the international.
Patrick Dorgu is now internally seen as a winger and part of Carrick’s attacking plans – increasing the need for another specialised left-back.
Sources confirm to us that Hall wants to become a United player – and that his representatives have made their position known to Newcastle. But it has done little to change Newcastle’s attitude.
Newcastle refuse to sell Hall
The Magpies see Hall as one of the cornerstones of Matthias Jaissle’s new project – and have no intention of considering bids in this transfer window.
Several media outlets have reported a valuation of £60 million. TEAMtalk reports that Newcastle refuse to even discuss a price tag. That’s how determined the club is to keep Hall and send United to the door.
Internally, sources believe that a sum of over £62 million would be required – more than the Premier League record for a left-back, set when Chelsea paid Brighton £62 million for Marc Cucurella in 2022 – before the club would even consider changing its stance.
Newcastle insist that no formal talks have taken place with Manchester United.
However, TEAMtalk understands that intermediaries have been told clearly that any enquiry is undesirable – the club is determined to keep one of the most promising young defenders in English football.
However, there is some caution around St. James’ Park.
Is there hope for Manchester United?
Newcastle have previously taken similar uncompromising positions with Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali – and more recently Bruno Guimarães – but all three situations eventually ended in transfers.
Guimarães is now expected to complete his move to Arsenal in the next week – despite Newcastle’s long-standing insistence that the Brazilian was unavailable.
That story means that Manchester United have not completely given up hope. While Newcastle’s public and private message remains that Hall is staying, those close to the situation believe that the player’s desire to leave means that the story is not yet over – should United choose to test Newcastle’s resolve with a significant bid before the window closes.
For now, however, Newcastle’s position is unreserved: Hall is a fundamental part of Jaissle’s plans – and they have no intention of letting him go.
