When Alejandro Garnacho worked his way into the senior team of Manchester United, Diogo Dalot was one of the mentors of the young Argentine. On Saturday, the two were again at the same match arena, this time on separate halves of the field. Here, the 21-year-old was put in the “baby gate” by his former teammate.

Garnacho admitted earlier this month that he “turned out”, regrets how he had behaved at United in the last six months before the exit and that he missed the club. The visiting Man Utd supporters at Stamford Bridge on Saturday made sure to show they didn’t miss the Argentine.

Chelsea had to shell out £40m for Garnacho last summer, but the Argentine is struggling to show his worth. Against Manchester United, the 21-year-old was simply invisible. Diogo Dalot, in particular, made sure to neutralize his former “apprentice”.

Garnacho started on the bench at Stamford Bridge, but an early injury to Estevao meant he made his first appearance against Manchester United since his transfer. This was a match he can hardly bear to remember. Garnacho lost the ball 15 times, and in the end, he was marked out of the game by his former teammate, Dalot.

Manchester United picked up three points with a 0-1 win, Garnacho showed he still has a lot to learn in the world’s toughest league, while Chelsea fans are unlikely to be particularly impressed with the club’s £40 million investment.
